MOTHER NATURE WINS AGAIN - WPIAL EXTENDS BASKETBALL SEASON

With the exception of a couple of games here and there, Tuesday will mark the fourth straight day the WPIAL boys and girls basketball schedule and the PIHL high school hockey slate have been wiped out due to poor weather. With another storm approaching Western Pennsylvania Tuesday and Wednesday, more cancellations are expected into Thursday. Thus the WPIAL has extended the basketball season with this release Tuesday morning.

WPIAL Coaching Change - Norwin Football

A Westmoreland County football coaching legend is coming back to run the sidelines at his third county school. Monday night, Norwin High School hired Art Tragesser as the Knights new football head coach.

Will the PPD song remain the same, or will we be treated to some hardwood, ice or championship mat action Tuesday here on the MSA Sports Network. Already some of the basketball broadcast schedule has been chipped away so to speak due to weather related postponements, however nine WPIAL boys and two District 6 girls basketball contests remain, plus A PIHL Class AAA high school hockey matchup, womens college hoops featuring Carlow University and the 2010 WPIAL and the District 6 Team Wrestling Championships are all here on the MSA Sports Network.

2010 WPIAL TEAM WRESTLING FINALS NOW SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON

For a second time, the WPIAL has been forced to postpone the 2010 WPIAL Team Wrestling Championships. Originally scheduled for Saturday, the massive winter storm that blew through western Pennsylvania Friday night and Saturday morning forced the district to postpone the AA and AAA team finals until Monday. Now district officials have postponed them again until Tuesday afternoon at Fox Chapel High School. However the Class AAA Consolation Match took place Monday night as Connellsville advanced to the PIAA state playoffs.

Welcome to another edition of “PIHL News and Notes,” your source for all the scholastic hockey happenings you don’t hear about on “The PIHL Power Play.” Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow—not even a ton of it—can keep us from trudging on through a historically brutal winter weekend in the ‘Burgh. It was a weekend that saw the PIHL schedule get buried in the avalanche, including the remainder of the Outdoor Charity Series, but it still left us with plenty to talk about.

WPIAL Girls Basketball Playoff Clinchings

The 'Stretch Run' of the 2009-2010 season is upon as we are down to the final week and a half of regular season play to determine the field for the 2010 WPIAL Girls Basketball Playoffs. At least 76 teams will be in the running for the four district crowns to be determined on March 5th and 6th at Duquesne University. Here are the 'Battle to the Bluff' playoff clinchings through Monday, February 8th.
