2008 WPIAL SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS Update
Despite a wet Wednesday, all but two opening round games from Class AAA, Class AA and Class A are in the books. Here are all the final scores from First Round action in all four classifications plus the schedule for the two remaining Class AA opening round contests bumped back to Thursday afternoon in the 2008 WPIAL Softball Playoffs.

2008 WPIAL BASEBALL PLAYOFFS Update
The First Round of the 2008 WPIAL Baseball Playoffs got an early start on Wednesday with one Class AA contest played at Chippewa Park. Here is the result of that one Class AA surprise as the #4 seed falls, plus the schedule for the other seven opening round Class AA games on Thursday and the First Round schedule for Class AAAA, Class AAA and Class A set for Friday.

WPIAL Baseball Recap from Wednesday, May 14th
The 2008 WPIAL baseball Playoffs were not supposed to begin until Thursday. However a scheduling conflict moved the Class AA First Round game between Neshannock and Bishop Canevin at Chippewa Park up from Thursday to Wednesday. Here is a recap from the first surprise of the baseball postseason.

In 1958, the AP and UPI college basketball All-American team was made up of four of the best players in the history of the game – and also a former WPIAL player. Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and Guy Rodgers were four of the players on the first All-American team. The fifth was Pitt’s Don Hennon.

WPIAL Class AA Track & Field: QV's Rodgers Four Times Golden
With a number of last year’s champs having graduated there were plenty of opportunities for new stars to shine at the 2008 WPIAL Class AA Individual Track & Field Championships Tuesday afternoon. Some did, but a few familiar faces also captivated the crowd at South Side Beaver High School’s Ashcroft Athletic Complex, adding to their legacies.

WPIAL BOYS VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS
Twelve teams in Class AAA and thirteen teams in Class AA are set to serve for WPIAL gold as the district boys volleyball playoffs begin this week. First Round action will take place Wednesday, May 14th and Thursday, May 15th with the championship finals set for Friday, May 23rd at LaRoche College.

Panthers Rule the Court as USC and SA Win 5th Straight WPIAL Boys Team Tennis Titles
One cat was taken to the limit while the other climbed to the top without losing a match, but when all was said and done Friday at the Lake Vue Racquet Club in Valencia, a pair of Panthers were crowned champions...Again. For a fofth straight year, both Upper St. Clair in Class AAA and Sewickley Academy in Class AA captured gold in the 2008 WPIAL Boys Team Tennis Championships.
