Student Athlete Spotlight - Sydney Judkins
|
|
Sydney Judkins, a senior at South Park High School and a Division I recruit, has established herself as "one of the region's best goalkeepers"
(ESPN Rise Magazine; September 2008). Her list of accomplishments to date is impressive including 4 section championships and 3 WPIAL championships.
She also holds the title of 2007 PIAA State Champion having led the Lady Eagles in their school's first girl's state appearance with a 0-0 tie against
8 time champions Villa Joseph Marie; posting 18 shut outs in the season. Recording a goals against average of 0.33 in 2007, she allowed the least goals
of any keeper in the WPIAL with only 9 goals in 27 games. With 17 shut outs this season, Judkins earned her 45th career shut out and returned to the
PIAA finals for the second consecutive year. As captain of the 2008 Lady Eagles, she was named early in the season by the Tribune Review and MSA Sports
Network as a "Player to Watch". She was also named to the 2007 Tribune Review All- Area All Star team and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette South All Star Team.
In addition, Sydney is a 2 year All-Section and 2 year All-WPIAL All Star selection. Additionally, Sydney has played club soccer for West Virginia Vision
(2009), Century United (2008), Beadling (2007,2006), IFC (2005,2004), and Victory (2003,2002). She was also a 4 year member of the '91 Girls ODP Team and
has been invited to play soccer with teams around the country.
Sydney has been successful in other activities, sports, and academics. She is a track and basketball letterman and was on the 2007 WPIAL Champion Lady Eagles
basketball team. In addition, she serves as student athletic trainer for all sports at South Park High School and was recently a finalist for the Freddie
Fu Scholarship/Internship program. She is a member of Interact and has been a volunteer reader at South Park Elementary Center.
Goals for Sydney include attending college with an undergraduate major in athletic training, pursuing her dream of playing Division I soccer. She also
desires a post graduate degree in physical therapy with plans for a successful future in sports medicine.
